Stone Fabrication Facility Construction – Wilmington, Massachusetts

This 44,400 SF stone fabrication facility was designed, permitted, and constructed to support large-scale production, material handling, and showroom operations for Gerrity Stone in Wilmington, Massachusetts. The project was delivered through the integrated design-build approach of McCarty Companies, with civil engineering and permitting services provided by McCarty Engineering and construction completed by McCarty Associates.

The site was formerly home to a chemical coating factory, with two existing buildings totaling 26,800 SF requiring full abatement and demolition to make way for the new construction. Site design presented unique challenges, as 12 additional existing buildings were required to remain in service throughout all phases of construction. Environmental conditions further influenced the project scope, with wetlands and a shallow groundwater table necessitating a highly engineered stormwater management approach incorporating a Constructed Stormwater Wetland designed by McCarty Engineering.

The new building is a 44,400 SF pre-engineered metal structure with insulated metal panel siding. The front portion of the facility was designed as a clear-span space to support two 10-ton overhead cranes with 72-foot spans, while the rear production area houses four 2-ton bridge cranes, two jib cranes, and a dedicated water recycling system. Office and showroom spaces are integrated into the front of the building. Construction began in April 2021 and was completed in May 2022 by McCarty Associates, under the integrated project delivery structure of McCarty Companies.
